This is to raise the point that certain religious institutions have encouraged two dangerous habits in their adherents and to make clear that the ultimate failure and disintegration of these institutions is caused directly by the consequences of this practice. Deference to an individual who is worthy of it exclusively by virtue of their title has opened the way for unbelievable abuses of authority. Hand in hand with this concept goes the inherently immoral and unbiblical concept of forgiveness without a basis for forgiveness, apparently this practice is encouraged to "heal" the victim and elevate them above their abuser. Why would any institution encourage these two complementary practices in their adherents? The answer is that this will make them easier to exploit. This, in the case of Christianity at least, is a distortion of the respect Christ's followers were to have for the men who took a lead in their collective ministry and of the willingness to forgive that they were to practice when there was an appropriate basis for it. It is actually a contravention of Divine purpose to forgive someone who is unrepentant and refuses to be held accountable. These twinned processes have allowed a culture of abuse and exploitation to thrive and develop to the point where the identity of the institution is fundamentally compromised and it will accelerate it's gradual and agonising decomposition. In the light of this brief analysis it seems to me more and more unforgivable that humanity has allowed bad religion to occupy its position in the world so securely for so long. The pain caused and the inhumanity perpetuated by bad religion, even in it's death throws, is more than enough cause to strip it of the temporal power and assets it should never have accumulated in the first place.
Strong men are weeping Weeping softly at twilight The sound rises with the Smoke of cook fires The city trembles in the Evening light for As the face of the sun has left the sky The voice of justice has fallen silent in the gate A child has taken his place From the top of the wall a child lifts its voice From the gate there is no answer The eminent men are silent The landowners examine Hastily written contracts in the Weak light of a single lamp Strong men selling their inheritance For doubtful promises of safety And the seats in the gate are empty
